Technology has a great effect in almost every aspect of life today, and education is no exception. Or is it? In some ways, education is more likely the same as it has been for many years. Over the years, teachers lecture while the students sit in rows and listen. Students have books open in front of them and appear to be following along. Some students look bored about the topic being discussed. Some do not listen because they hate the subject or the teacher maybe. Some are talking to their seatmates about their plan after the class hours. One appears to be sleeping because it is nap time. Classrooms nowadays look much different. You might find modern students looking at their laptops, tablets, or smart phones instead of books. Some would say that technology has done nothing to change education.

In many ways, technology has changed education. Technology has greatly expanded access to education. Over the past years, books were rare and only few had access to education. Today, massive amounts of information (books, audio, images, videos) are available at one’s fingertips through the Internet. Access to learning opportunities today is unprecedented. Thanks to technology.

Technology begins to change the roles of teachers and learners. In the traditional classroom, the teacher is the primary source of information, and the learners passively receive it. Because of the access to information and educational opportunity that technology has enabled, teachers today serves as “guide on the side” as students take more responsibility for their own learning using technology.

Technology is a powerful tool. It can transform education in many ways. Teachers can now easily create instructional materials. It enables people to learn and work together. The use of smart and android devices that can connect to internet, a new age of anytime anywhere education is coming into existence.
