Struggles with Distance Learning

Most of our learners during the COVID-19 outbreak are having difficulty completing online work without the in-person guidance of their teachers. It can be frustrating when a teacher does not respond to their queries quickly, or when students do not know to answer such activity/task because their teacher is not there to teach the lesson.

Although distance learning is indeed complicated for students, they are not the only ones struggling with this learning modality. Teachers have to deal with the complications and struggles COVID-19 has caused within the education system as well. The sudden change in learning affected the teachers just as much as students. Behind the Zoom camera and professional smiles, teachers are stressed as well as the students because they no longer have the same work environment.

In my five years of teaching as a public school teacher, I thought this new normal setup would be easier than the traditional one. But I was wrong. Everyone is struggling and finding ways on how we will make our works easier in this kind of new normal setup. Some people say that teachers are very lucky in this setup but honestly speaking, they are wrong. With so many parents and students frustrated with distance learning, it is important to remember that this is a difficult adjustment for teachers too. Most are working harder than they ever have before to teach the same curriculum in less time, with a different format with different setup.

While students may be extremely stressed due to the virus, teachers not only have to deal with that same stress but also how to help their students succeed and take care of family members. However, aside from all of these obstacles, working from home has brought some silver linings. We now have more time with our families. We are enjoying eating lunch them.

This virus affects every person be in different ways. It is important that everyone should contribute towards ending this pandemic. Together, we can do this.
